Why Isn't the U.S. Recycling Rate Growing

A newly released report from the U.S. EPA indicates that aside from a stagnant recycling rate in recent years, national e-scrap finally rose to 40 percent in 2013. The rate in 2013 ascended from 30.6 percent to 40.4 percent. The U.S. generated 3.14 million tons of municipal solid waste in 2013 and recovered 1.27 million tons for recycling and composting. Even though the rise in recovery is positive, it is still unclear whether the hefty increase in electronics recycling rate from 2012 to 2013 is due to an actual increase in recycling or the outcome of upgraded and expanded data.

Top Three Reasons to Watch What You Throw in the Trash

What many companies don’t realize is that what they are throwing away can actually be valuable commodities. Waste costs for businesses have simply become another bill that gets paid just as their electricity and water without thinking twice. Once their establishment opens up, dumpsters start becoming filled and hauled away without businesses giving a second thought to what was actually in them.

The Countdown Begins!

We are now officially 9 days away from one of our BIGGEST e-cycle events of the year – the ABC13 Earth Day E-Cycling Drive!

This year celebrates ABC-13’s 9th annual event and CompuCycle has been a part of this event for 8 years now! We encourage Houstonians to drop-off their e-waste materials to help do their part to make Houston a better place to live.

Each year this event gets bigger and better and every year we try to break our previous year’s record. Just take a look at these numbers from previous years:

2014 = 138,174 pounds collected & 1,563 cars

2013 = 107,696 pounds collected & 1,162 cars

The Earth Day E-Cycling Drive will be held on Friday, April 17th from 6am – 3pm at the ABC-13 Studios 3310 Bissonnet. Also make sure to tune in at 9am for an hour long LIVE TV special!

This drive is for consumers and residents only, not for businesses. No trailers or flatbeds. If businesses wish to contribute to this event, delivers can be made at our main facility, located at 7700 Kempwood Drive or contact us at 713-869-6700.

We are looking forward to another successful event!

4th Annual Mayor's Back 2 School Fest

MBTSFThe 4th Annual Mayor's Back to School Fest was held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the University of Houston.

The event's purpose was to aid economically disadvantaged students grades K-5, who reside in the City of Houston, to prepare for the new school year. The Back to School Fest is a great opportunity for families to experience an array of resources and tools students need to start off the school year right. Backpacks, immunizations, basic school supplies and more are donated by multiple corporations in the Houston community to help make this event a success.

This year, CompuCycle was ecstatic to be a part of as well as a sponsor for the Mayor's Back to School Fest.

We wish all students, facility and parents a great academic achievement in this 2014-2015 school year.
